Ministry trainee (apprentice/intern)
The role is part-time paid employment for practical tasks learning servant- hearted ministry and seeing how churches run, a Bible ministry training course at our expense, and opportunities to volunteer the rest of your time to try out whichever Bible/people ministries suit or interest you, for example youth, children, students, internationals, 1-1s, small groups or music.
We are: a warm church family of about 200 with a good spread of ages and stages, led by a conservative evangelical team. Our vicar led a church revitalisation from St Andrew the Great and our associate vicar is leading a similar project to Peterborough. We have an associate minister for women & children, a young adults worker, a youth worker and an administrator.
We’re seeking:

a whole-hearted follower of Jesus;
-
a committed member of an evangelical church;
-
experience as a volunteer helper on a Bible team (for example at a church, Christian Union, summer venture, holiday club or mission trip);
-
a desire to try out and learn about full-time church ministry;
-
available from September 2026 until July 2027, God willing;
-
sharing our commitment to safeguarding young or vulnerable people;
-
good background checks and references (at least one from your current church leaders)

permission to work in the UK (we can't sponsor a visa for this role)
We’re offering:

employed part-time for essential tasks (£800 per month);
-
church members willing to offer free accommodation;

a gospel partnership ministry training course one day a week;
-
the Cornhill Training course for anyone who has completed the above;

regular meetings with the vicar and staff for training & support;

working with an experienced staff team in a shared office.

Trainee Preacher- vacancy filled
The role is expository preaching once or twice a month with weekly 1-1 feedback and help; and also pastoral, evangelistic and relational 1-1 ministry, especially with newcomers. Small group work could be with 20s & 30s, ARU undergraduates, 11-18s, internationals or preschool families, depending on experience & gifts.
St Matthew’s is a warm church family of about 200 with a good spread of ages and stages. We’re led by a conservative evangelical team under the oversight of a complementarian Bishop. Our vicar, Frank Price, led a “church graft” from St Andrew the Great and our associate vicar is leading a similar project to Peterborough. We have a children/women’s worker, a youth worker and administrator.
We’re seeking:

2-6 years’ UK ministry experience (eg church apprentice, youth or student worker);

evidence of faithful, engaging, expository Bible preaching;

gifted at making connections and building friendships with new people quickly;

available to start 1st September 2026 and likely to stay for at least 3 years, God willing;
-
sharing our commitment to safeguarding young or vulnerable people;
-
good references and background checks.
We’re offering:

pay matching unqualified teachers (£25k-£35k, depending on experience/training);

housing next to church building (30% deducted from pay, not suitable for large family);
